The Teen Electronic Event Notification Service (TEENS) is a free, voluntary program provided by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to help parents and guardians monitor the driving behaviors of minors under the age of 18. The program automatically notifies enrolled parents via mail when significant events—such as traffic tickets, convictions, license suspensions, revocations, or reportable crashes—are posted to the minor’s driving record. To be eligible, the child must be under 18 and hold a NYS learner permit, driver license, or non-driver ID, while the parent or guardian must possess a valid NYS driver license or non-driver ID.

Enrollment can be completed either by providing the parent's ID number on the minor’s initial application for a license (Form MV-44) or by submitting a dedicated enrollment form (MV-TEENS) to the Bureau of Driver Training Programs. The service aims to provide parents with a tool to encourage safe driving habits and intervene when risky behaviors are identified. Participation ends automatically when the child reaches age 18, at which point the individual gains full privacy rights over their DMV record. Although the DMV provides these notifications, it does not mandate specific parental actions, leaving the use of the information to the discretion of the guardian.
