The form allows individuals to request their own records or, under the federal Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (DPPA), the records of another person provided they certify a permissible use, such as for legal proceedings, insurance assessment, or employment verification. For more comprehensive histories, the DMV offers a Lifetime Driving Record, which includes all available data regardless of standard retention laws, and for those requiring more specialized documents like title abstracts or ticket photocopies, form MV-15 is used instead.
