The Vehicle Inspection Record

- Safety and Diesel Emissions (Form VS-1074SD) is an official document issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for licensed inspection stations to manually record safety and diesel emissions inspections. It is primarily used for recording results that are not required to be entered into the Computerized Vehicle Inspection System (CVIS), such as diesel emissions and safety inspections for heavy vehicles conducted at stations within the New York Metropolitan Area (NYMA) or diesel inspections at stations outside the NYMA.

The form captures essential vehicle information, including the year, make, odometer reading, and license plate number, along with specific inspection results for systems like brakes, lights, tires, suspension, and steering. It also tracks the inspector's certification number and the serial numbers for issued inspection certificates or rejection notices. To remain in compliance with state regulations, inspection stations must start a new form on the first day of each year, maintain them in chronological order with the start of each month clearly marked, and retain all completed records in their files for at least two years from the date of the last entry.
